French Creole, Pen & Ink, Markers, 11 x 17″
It’s unusual to see a night time Architectural Rendering but I wanted to give it a try. This French Creole style house designed by Bainbridge is deceptively simple looking. It was much harder to draw than I imagined and working from a photo rather than plans is always more challenging. At any rate the object here wasn’t so much getting the proportions exactly right as it was to practice getting colors and values right for a night scene.
The tendency with Night scenes is to go too dark with the values. With so much light streaming out those windows, there’s really going to be a lot of color still visible albeit muted. I’m pleased with the experiment.
This is a very lovely home with all that iron railing work. I enjoyed all the fun line work involved in rendering this piece. It was also cool to use a white pen for some back lighting effects.
